How Long After a Divorce Can You Get Remarried in Florida?
By Drew Nelson
No Waiting Period
There is no waiting period after a divorce to get remarried in Florida. However, Florida residents are required to have taken a premarital course within 12 months of applying for a marriage license or wait three days for the marriage license to become effective. The premarital course requirement does not apply to non-Florida residents.
Exact Date of Divorce Required
If either party was previously married, the exact date of the last divorce, death or annulment must be provided. The final judgment date from the court where the divorce was filed is the date of the divorce. Also, both parties must apply for the marriage license together at the same time.
Bottom Line
Even though there is no waiting period to be remarried after a divorce, there may be a three-day waiting period for Florida residents if the premarital course requirement has not been satisfied by both parties. The parties do not need to take the course at the same time.
